Christine B. Lindner, "Piecing Together the Fragmented History of Esther Mushriq Haddad," AMEWS E-Bulletin, 1 (January 2014)

Through examining various items found in the N.E.S.T. Special Collections, including the Teaching Certificates, Christine B. Lindner attempts to retell the history of Esther Mushriq Haddad, a teacher and Biblewoman during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In so doing, Lindner recounts the difficulties in piecing together the fragmented legacy of this and other women, whose role in the Arab cultural renaissance (the Nahda) are often overlooked. Lindner also highlights the various preservation projects that are taking place in the region, including the PPHME, which aim to reintroduce individuals, like Esther, to the historical narrative.
